Dr. Mary Hill , Director

 

Dr. Hill holds a BSN, from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Al, a MSN degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, and a DSN degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL. Her expertise consists of Adult Health Nursing, Nursing Administration, Organizational, Evaluation,  and Cultural Diversity in Organizations.

Dr. Hill, a native Mississippian, has over 38 years of nursing experience in nursing service and nursing education. Her publications include articles on strategic management as a process for increasing cultural diversity in nursing education, breast cancer among African American women in Mississippi, transformational leadership in nursing education, and recruitment, retention and matriculation of ethnic minority nursing students. In addition, Dr. Hill serves as a role model for students in the state of Mississippi and beyond.

Irma Lane, Health Education Coordinator  

Mrs. Lane’s professional experience as a Registered Nurse for the past twenty years includes education, administration and practice. Currently, she serves as the Education Coordinator of Southwest Mississippi Area Health Education Center. She has held various positions in the school of nursing for  over ten years. She has worked as the Admission Recruiter, Pre-nursing Advisor, Counselor, Skills Lab Instructor for the Associate and Baccalaureate Nursing Programs and as a Primary Care Nurse for the Alcorn State University Family Clinic. She has successfully coordinated state funded health promotion projects and disease prevention grants (example STD/HIV), and she is a community health and healthcare career educator.

Her administrative expertise includes Supervisor of inpatient and out patient acute care, Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator for the Jefferson County Hospital and the Jefferson County  Nursing Home in Fayette, Mississippi.  Her roles included coordination and management of Infection Control, Quality Assurance, Emergency Room Services, Obstetrical Services, Staff Management and training, Supervision of Extended Care Swing Bed Unit, and successful completion of  state and federal facility audits.

Practice areas include staff nurse in Acute Care, Emergency, and Obstetrical Services.  Currently she practices in the Alcorn State University School of Nursing, Nurse Managed Clinic.  Further, she is a community disaster nurse.

Mrs. Lane expertise is in community health and education. She coordinated the In-Home Respite Caregiver and Companion Project.  Her role included teaching three specific skills to family caregivers: training an informal network of respite caregivers and helping family caregivers to focus on their own health.  Additionally, she continues to provide a variety of community educational activities to students, senior citizen centers, local school systems, community groups and diabetic support groups which she develops and facilitates.
